After a successful pilot programme in late 2022, the MENGI MENGI FILM CLUB returns to the McMillan Eastlands Library with a revamped schedule and structure.

The public sessions will now be held on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month. To better serve the various groups attending the screenings, the first session will exclusively focus on children’s programming while the second session will be targeted towards persons over 16 years.

We’re kicking off the first 2023 edition of Mengi Mengi Film Club with JOY’S GARDEN (2021) by Director Ngwatilo Mawiyoo (Kenya). The sweet film follows an absent baby daddy and his seven-year-old daughter who must learn to make room for one another.

The Mengi Mengi Film Club presents THE GODS MUST BE CRAZY (1980) by Director Jamie Uly (South Africa) and SEED (2018) by Director Voline Ogutu (Kenya). Both films feature characters dissatisfied with their stations in life and eager to change things by any means necessary. Uly’s film employs humour to great effect as it follows a travelling Bushman who encounters modern civilization and its stranger aspects while Ogutu takes a darker path in this fantasy drama about money, greed and death.

Free entry. Screening starts promptly at 1PM.

MENGI MENGI FILM CLUB is curated and hosted by filmmaker Wanjeri Gakuru with a goal to enjoy, dissect and learn from a wide selection of pan-African films.
